A different kind of day...

Sitting here knocking out a couple of fiscal year tax returns that are due in December and January. One a corporate and one a non-profit. Got a little snow last night, but now it is over 40 degrees and getting kind of sloppy. I have the combine back together and ready to finish up the corn I should already be done with if the elevator hadn't messed me up. That end of the field is high on the north with a fairly good grade down to a muddy swale then up the far side about the same distance. UP the hill is not really a problem once you stop the slewing motion from climbing thru the mud. DOWN the hill is OK also unless you hit that odd pocket where you get no traction. Then you are just as likely to go down sideways as not...a rare treat that a person should experience at least once in their life. The cardio benefits almost outweigh the cost of the corn you run over. Nothing like a 9 ton machine with another 3 tons of grain up high on the back sliding down a hill sideways. Really can get the heart rate up. Next couple nights are going to be down in the 20's and looks like we have one day where it will not get above freezing. Thinking I will wait it out and hope the ground freezes this week. Meanwhile we get the decorating done and I can catch up on the office work. Rolling the dice we don't have any deep snow coming soon. :)

I hear you. I don't think I dare try anything until Monday of next week. I don't think it'll take me more than two days to finish if I can just get that window with things froze up.

Catching up on odd jobs anyway. Grouted some bathroom tile, replaced a burned out element in the wife's glass top stove and took a feedlot gate up to the shop and welded some cracks in that today.

You don't want any snow on the corn plant as it messes up the sieves with material and plugs them. Better to wait till below freezing. Even then the snow melts going thru the machine making a mess.

Dave, did you see the grain bin on Sheridan's consignment sale ? Don't know anything about it ...but I know your looking for one....

Ahh...no I did not. I will take a look at it. I will tell you, Sheridan is who I got the combine thru. You don't want to know how much I have into that thing but if I can be buried in it and save funeral expenses I might just come out ahead! Bought the 7000 planter and the 820 bean head together from another of their sales. The planter looked great and needed a complete rebuild. So far the bean head looks like it might be a diamond in the rough. Bill used to be one of the best of the auctioneers. These days I would look up if he told me the sky was blue. ;)

Hey Dave . We are looking to upgrade our grain system and probably have 2 bins to get rid of. 1 of the is a dryer that does 1800 bu batches and hold 8000 bu . We are close.
