I have a jd2555 two wheel drive with reverser. The clutch I believe is hydraulic "no books" and does not work also when I engage the pto it turns slow at any engine rpm. I have power steering and three point hitch lift arms work but choppy. Changed filters and oil. Any ideas where to look next would be helpful before I split the tractor Thanks

It sound like you have low transmission oil pressure/flow,, check the sump screen and change the filter first, after that possible trans pump line cracked or failed trans pump, these or hard to sort out...

I would check the PTO lines. I am not real familiar with the Power reverser models but on the straight gear drive ones the line that come up to and go down from the control valve are prone to breaking/cracking. So if it is broken on the engage pressure side you would have a big leak when you engage the PTO.

Traction clutch is dry type on tractors with reverser. I'll add to what others stated to check reverser pressures in both fwd & rev.One can remove shift cover & blow compressed air in tubes to check for leaks. Is your tractor cab or open station?

Thanks for your help I'll try to check it tonight. Open station and it's the construction yellow version of the 2555

Got sump screen out and found tiny red fragments of something not a lot but screen was 95% clean.

Screen appearance sounds good. I'll suggest to check stand-by pressure by plugging gauge in rear breakaway coupler and activating control lever in the correct direction. Pressure should be 2250 psi.

Thanks. We drained all the oil today while I had the screen out. Appeared clear of metal shavings but really dark in color with no sign of "milkyness".

All screens are clean and filters with new correct oil. We perfect pressure from the pump to the valve in back of tractor. No pressure on the valve assembly which the clutch and reverser go into. You suggested take shifter plate off and look for cracked hoses correct?? Thanks for your help

You're welcome,Jim
Well I took the shifter cover plate off and the only steel hose visible is at the bottom and unable to reach. Not sure what my next step should be.

With options of reverser & hyd independent pto there should be 5 or 6 open tubes visible after shift cover is removed.

I'm sending you a pic of the shift cover I have --the one you sent me is not what's on my tractor. Sorry for the confusion thanks
