JD 4450 steering pump

I have an oil leak under the dash of the 4450, and suspect the steering pump. I did have a pressure hose blow a yr ago, tried to clean it behind the dash with contact cleaner.
Is oily damp all under the dash, continues under the cab, collecting dirt, with an oil trail down the side of the trans.
I wiped the pump off with a paper towel, and ran it, moving the steering wheel, but am not able to see any seepage at the seam of the pump
I am also able to turn the steering wheel 20-40 deg before the front wheel turn. It has about 11,000 hrs.
Is there another way to check it, without totally dismantling the steering column?
thank you

A lot of times the steering shaft thrust bushing fails allowing the shaft to work up and out of the lower seal area, this lets a small amount of oil leak up and out the top then down under the tube and onto the floor,, also there is a check valve that can get weak and let too much charge oil enter the valve, forcing oil out the seal. To service it you can remove the steer wheel and hinge bolts/hoses and the column will come down out the bottom with out removing the dash. I can re-work it here or help walk you through it when your ready, I have a couple here now, If I can I will take a few pictures to help explain it all...
