Whats the proper name for those caps you used to be able to by for sparkplugs that helped keep them from fouling on a motor that liked oil? I remember using them back in the day but can't for the life of me remember what they were called. They threaded onto the threads of the plug and then threaded into the sparkplug hole In the head.

Auto-zone and the like should still sell them. Package will caution you to not use them on all cylinders. Well they were right as I tried it in a straight 6 and it caused more problems.

Save your money and use a piece of balling wire just wrap it around the porcelain on the plug then bend it so it is close but not touching the tip of the plug then put the wire on it. It will clean a plug up and if on all of them might even be hard to start with out taking them back off.

Thanks. My allis b likes to foul #2 plug if it is not run hard and in the winter it tends to do alot of idling when bringing in firewood. I think I might get one and try it. I remember using them back in the day on my first car before I pulled the motor for an overhaul but just couldn't remember the name. I can't see overhauling the allis for one plug that only does it if left idling for too long a period.

I remember an old neighbor who cut the plug wire in two for a cylinder that was a plug fouler. He stripped back a little insulation on the two cut ends, and wired the two ends to a shirt button. It would arc across the holes in the button and keep the plug clean. It fascinated me when I was a kid - that and the steady drip from the sediment bowl.

Sometimes the plug boot will fit tight enough that you can pull the wire loose just enough so it will arc and still not fall off the plug.

i have used them on my loader tractor, instructions called for only using on 1/2 of the plugs. If 4 cylinder then you only need to use 2. I bought mine at NAPA , had to order them. They worked on my oil burner. I have since replaced the motor. joe
