The good of eBay

Now people can complain all they want but here's my deal. During the move the inner tach cable fell out of my drag bike because the magneto that drives it was removed allowing inner drive cable to fall out of its housing. It has separate H-D part number . Punch part number in eBay search and find NOS inner cable 5 dollars. Get cable two days later in mail in envelope stapled shut from 1960s NOS Harley- Davidson stock . I couldn't get Barnett to make up that cable for less than 30 bucks . Where else would I find it that easily and painlessly. I like eBay.

Yep. Have found lots of good parts deals for my Sporty on there. Sometimes have to watch for a while. Have had good luck selling on there too. Raised enough to pay for a trip to Paris for my youngest.

We haven't used it very often but have always had great luck. My wife only purchases from sellers with almost all positive feed back and haven't missed yet. Even got a 9 piece tool kit in a replica pouch for the 2N Ford!

Just this morning we bought a brand new Fexco conveyor belt cutter for less than $300 delivered. This item retails over $1000. I like Ebay too, at this point I could have many bad transaction and still be waaay to the good in dollars and time spent vs other means.

I've found that E-bay is better than the "local" scrap yards for obsolete farm equipment parts, and fantastic for equipment manuals and part books. Shipping can be a bear, but I've still driven a couple hours to get "truck freight" items. Who'd think to look in the newspaper classifieds in places 100 miles away for a C123 block at a decent price?

Where else are you going to connect someone looking for a 1940's rake manual, with the guy who got the box of 'useless' old books at grandpa's auction, or who ended up with the NOS part even the dealers can't source.

Yep. E-bay is a Godsend.

I do use Ebay primarily for parts. Many old quad, snowmobile, and mower parts would cost 3 times as much or more from a reproduction company or pay crazy high prices from Honda or such. Some tractor parts too.

I needed a block heater for a JD forklift.Deere wanted 150 bucks for a new one.I put the part number in the search box on ebay and a new Old stock one still in the box popped up for 49.50 with free shipping.I got it in two days.

I needed a new horizontal airflow fan for the greenhouse (for those of you who don't know what these are, they're designed to run continuously for years in 100% humidity, so the motors are a bit special and spendy). Was on the verge of paying the couple hundred dollars a new one would cost but just for the heck of it I typed the model number into eBay and found a brand new one that was described as "Unclaimed freight. I have no idea what this fan is for. Buy it now for $9.99." After that, even if I get hideously ripped off a few times, using eBay will have been worth it.

You bet new, I'm finicky that way.
You'd be surprised what people buy in
lots then sell in smaller quantities. gm

I've bought a ton of stuff from eBay. Parts for my vehicles and tractors. Decal kits, old fishing lures, just about anything you can think of.

I bought a nice Jari sickle mower 100 miles from me for $100, just had to be picked up. Nobody else bid on it. Had an almost new commercial motor on it. I wanted one for years for my lake lot in Minnesota. Found it, just had to wait for one to pop up.

I can find parts way easier for these old tractors then I can looking through the local yards. And delivered to my door or to Dad's door in Montana. He loves having packages just show up at his door!

Needed a fuel pump for a 1977 Goldwing. Dealer said no longer available. Went to E-bay....$35 and three days and I had a brand new pump. Same for a brake hose on the same bike.

Same here MANY ITEMS CANNOT BE SOURCED LOCALLY. I guess like any thing you will have trouble if you do enough. Selling some times it get a buyer where locally the item would go to the dump!!

I do too Dr. Everything that i have bought on there has been in better shape than described. I've sold a few things (very few) on there and try to be as honest as possible in the description.

I think most buyers like ebay. It's the sellers that get the shaft with all their fees. You have something to sell, you have to tend to it and ship the item and greedybay get's anywhere from nine to fifteen percent of the sale.

I have never used ebay much before, but after my divorce its been great for me to buy anything I need, weather it's a Chicago cutlery knife set, booster seat, truck parts, mower parts, truck tires, cooking pots, manuals ect, I can find it reasonable, and the best thing is no NY sales tax! I buy as much as I can on ebay.

I used to do a lot of buying from EBay.
We are in Canada and now that most items on eBay are listed as using the global shipping program my purchasing has dropped to almost zero.

The shipping program uses couriers.
Couriers will not deliver to rural locations and can not deliver to the post office which means I can not get it delivered.
If I really need something and can not get it anywhere else I end up driving over an hour to pick up the parcel at the feed store who are kind enough to let me have things shipped to there location.
Same problem with Amazon.

I agree. People can say all they want about Ebay, but I can find stuff there that I'd never find otherwise in a million years. For instance, I had a "noise machine" that had sat next to my bed for well over 20 years making "white noise" every night so I could sleep without waking at every tiny noise in my house. I took it with me on a trip and lost it through forgetfulness. I'd tried others but that model made the best "noise" and stayed on all night. I looked in vain for another but they were NLA. 30 seconds on Ebay and I had one on the way- the exact same model for under $10.00. Or parts for my 444 Bobcat or old chainsaws or old tools, wool pants, books, etc.

Ebay is my first stop for parts and in 20 some years I've been burnt maybe once or twice. Can't beat it.

I and my wife would be totally lost without ebay....Just the other day
my wife ordered a new water filter for our refrigerator and saved $30..
I'm continually buying tractor parts and original sales literature on ebay..
I've found numerous hard to find post cards for my collection..I used to
buy lots of toys on ebay but I finally ran out of room for them..

I will include Amazon.

On ebay this week a rear spring shackle hanger kit for a 2000 chebby truck $49 free shipping. Local in the $100 range for aftermarket.

A pair of new OEM Toyota ignition coils for $49 free ship. Local a little over $100 a piece for aftermarket coils. It was a no start with coil codes it was not wasted money at $49 the diagnostic time would have been $100 plus. It was a roll of the dice I know everyone saved money...

I have had my bad in all cases but one it was resolved the one that was not was my fraught I let him slow play me till my time frame ran out... That gave that crook all the amo he needed :(

I found a NOS ABS brake controller for my Ford Expedition and got it quickly and no hassle. I like Ebay to buy from.

The seller can opt out of that .I sold something to a guy in Canada and that kicked in and the guy was not happy with cost.

That is interesting, I have contacted numerous sellers and they all told me that once the listing was done up that way they could not change it without taking it down and re-listing it.

Maybe they were to lazy to bother but after so many negative responses I just gave up on even considering any listing that showed the shipping program was used.
