Dead lawn mower

I bought this used 1997 model exmark lazer z in October soley for the ultra vac bagger system, I was gonna take the blower and bagger off and put them on my mower. Well I fixed a few problems that it had and have been using it for leave clean-ups. I replaced the pto switch, ran it yesterday 1/2 day, no problems, went to restart it after lunch and nothing, just the carb fuel valve clicking, my brother jumped the solonide and it started right up, I finished my day, today I got it in the garage, new keyswitch, starter off another engine that works, we checked all the safty interlocks, another solonide checked wires, tested the safty module and the engine will not start by the key? What are we missing we put 4 hours in on it, and come up empty. Any ideas?

All the or the most common problem I ever had with that unit was right there on that panel between the red throttle lever and the key switch. On the revers is a little black box . Those thing were notorious for going out. Would cause all kind of electrical problems.

Cranks but doesn't start or doesn't even spin the starter? If it doesn't spin the starter there might be a blown fuse somewhere. They can be well hidden.

I think your talking about this, the safty module, we tested it and thought it was bad, but read if you disconnect the black and red wire it should start, the dealer tells me it should start if it was bad, but I don't believe that, thank you for your input, I may as well get one tomorrow.

Fuses are good, no it won't even crank by the key, only when we jump solonide it will crank and start up.

Yes that is usually the culprit. That is the early model ,the new one you get may be larger but will plug right in. I never could get a positive way to check them and I can tell you for sure no combination of shorting out or jumping the wires there will let it start. BTDT

If you jump the solonoid and things work, I would suspect that it wasn't getting power to activate it and supply power to down stream components such as starter and ignition system. As said, hidden in-line fuse bad, or bad solonoid.

We put on a new solonide, one my brother had for his fisher plow, but, we dident bolt it down, does the solonide have to be gronded to the mower frame? Thanks Loren

Thats what usually gave me fits, that little black module. I can't hardly give away a bagger system I have like that.

Not sure what you mean, the bagger system is a big improvement over the trac vac system I had, lol

That delay module could be your problem. It could also be the tilt switch if its still in the harness with the seat switch. On the last one I worked on it was the park brake switch.

Keep it a few days and tell us that. I never sold one that stayed on the unit for an entire season. First of all the head is way too heavy and tilts the deck then you will go to burning belts and if that is not bad enough if you pick up leaves three bags is just not enough volume. But lets hope you have good luck and get going.. That is why they make red and white cars, ever one has their preference.. Sold a lot of ex mark till KUBOTA came with their big gas zero turns. Pretty much killed my ex mark sales.

There's just not a huge demand for them here on the prairie with less trees. We mulch most of our leaves. I have one set up that we'll use, but it's kind of a pain to get in our cargo trailers with the width. I have a second one I got with a 72" I bought and have tried selling it with no takers. I just wanted the 72", it has that fuel injected engine I like.

Two of my Wheel Horses have got an auxiliary solenoid that powers the solenoid on the starter. Those aux. solenoids have the 2 big terminals and 2 small ones, one small is grounded and the other goes to ign. switch. Don't know what you have but one of the small terminals has to be hot with the key in start position. If it's not it's probably some safety switch or connection back to the switch.

My brother has had his exmark 60 " with ultra vac for about 5 years no were near the problems iv had with a trac vac system, on my exmark, having the the extra engine to maintain ect stinks compared to just flipping the switch and the blower runs of the mower deck,, we dident have problems with burning belts. Exmark, toro and scag all use a side mount blower, what does Kubota use?

Yes mine does have a solenoid mounted on the frame before the starter which also has one mounted on it. Thanks
