Plasma cutter

Currently have a Hypertherm powermax 600 in the shop. If it's not cost effective to fix what is a good replacement cutter? My current needs are 1/8" to 1/2" max and used about 3 hours per week. Don't have a huge budget but will spend the money if I have to for a good one. TIA Merle

I've got a Thermodynamics/Victor 40 amp machine. It was less than $1000. It will cut 1/2" but will be slow and rough. It does what I need. Tip life is ok, not great.

Check the Hypertherm page on the weldingweb site. Lots of good experience and Jim Colt from Hypertherm is on there a lot and gives many good suggestions.

I agree with other post - don't give up on that machine.

I have been in the welding business for over 40 years and have thousands and thousands of dollars worth of welding and cutting equipment, but guess what,I don't have a plasma cutter. I just cannot talk myself into buying one. I have saws, nibblers, shears, that will cut aluminum and stainless and anything else I can cut with a torch as good as a plasma. I use a Carbon Arc as much as anything. I even went as far as to borrow one from a friend, trying to convince myself to buy one. Sorry, I just can't justify one.

When I sold my welding business I sold mine thinking I wouldn't need one anymore. It was the second thing I bought back, right after a band saw.

ESAB has very good equipment. Several sized plasma cutters.
There new Stick Mig Tig Welder is an amazing welder.
