Has anyone had any good/bad luck with Harvest King universal hydraulic oil? L&M has a good sale on it and I should change the JD, needs about 7 gallons. Thanks!

Be VERY careful !!!! The wrong oil will cost you more money than you can ever save !!!
You need trans/hydraulic oil that meets or exceeds JD spec for hy gard.

The container normally lists the specs it is SUPPOSED to be tested against and had a passing grade. The more mfgrs and oil specs listed the better I like it. Warren Oil is a national distributor and sells under many badges. You can just about bet that they have a dozen large vats and a container and label make ready company, if not internal.

If you call for premium trans/hyd fluid, you can bet it meets all of the requirements. I really doubt that they would piddle around with a shelf full of chemicals and........let's see, joe blow company wants a couple of 5 gallon pails of green premium fluid......let's see, what additives do we need to get down off the shelf and how much to meet JD 20C.

Then there is the tank of basic hyd fluid meeting JD 303, Ford 124, on and on that is just for hydraulics.

Another for Syn oil, and syn blend, and this weight engine oil and on and on.

Tractor companies are in the business of making tractors, not refining and distributing oil. Somebody has to read the spec, get the product ready and sell it under the OEM's equipment label. Warren is one of those companies I'd bet and may be the prime source for most.

I have used the generic branded trans/hydraulic, engine and gear oils for many years without a hint of problem BUT I am using them in older tractors in light use. If I had a new or newer tractor I heavy use I would go with OEM oils if for no other reason to keep the warrenty hassle free.
I bought two cases of motor oil for 99 a quart plus a 5 galling pail of 303 for stupid cheap *I think $15??)at RK thanksgiving day.
