Is it a sign?

I'm wondering if someone is trying to send me a message! Saw this old man going the wrong way on a divided road in Mora, a town 10 miles from my house. I stopped to see what he was going to do and the guy in the suburban went around me and almost caused an accident. I'm just glad I'm home now, think I'll stay in the rest of the day.

I don't know what kind of desperation it would take to make me do your job. I just can't deal with those idiots who are on the roads these days. Maybe if they were all on go karts with no protection whatsoever they'd be a little more cautious.

Jon, Thank you for being so caring as to check on the old fella. The same thing happened to my 87 year old mother last summer. She left my house to make the 11 mile drive to her home and in the darkness got confused and made a wrong turn and ended up going the wrong way on the off ramp of James River freeway and I-44. Neither road did she need to be on. When she realized what a mess she was in she just pulled her car into the center median and shut it off. A nice young man stopped to help her and got her car pulled around headed the right way and used her phone to call me. When I got there a very nice Greene Co deputy was telling not to feel bad it happens all the time. She followed me to her home. It shuck her up. She just drives to her little market now and that?s about it. But instead of honking and yelling and flipping her off some very understanding people helped her on her way. The roads are very scary and confusing to older people and it?s nice to know that there are caring concerned people like yourself out there watching over folks in the not so fast lane.

As we were taking a scenic route through Milwaukee last Saturday afternoon on the way to my nephews wedding, my M-I-L tells us she got on the highway the wrong direction earlier that week. Just nonchalant, like it happens all the time. Yes, there is a huge amount of construction there, and it can be confusing, but still. We took a wrong turn following the GPS (wrong ramp) and then I let her suggest options once we get off the highway. We did at least one figure eight looking for the place!

Friend called last week when I had to take someone to Indy airport. Said be careful news had report on older fellow in pickup going wrong way on roads near new airport. I told him not just one but a whole line of traffic was going wrong way. LOL

The last decade Minnesota fell in love with round a bouts.

Early ones were too small, but a regular cross road, I can see the benefits and at least am fine with thrm.

But wholly cow, they have 23 different designs of round a bouts, some have off ramps that exit before the bout, and the regional town near me they have a pair of round a bouts next to each other, both are 4 lane, and carry both semi heavy traffic and are the entrances to the malls and shopping district. Oh my gosh, what an egg beater, it is loony! No one knows what to do, and the mix of traffic at rush hour just makes a horrible setup there.

The other dozen or so round a bouts they have in that town, as I say, every one is designed differently, some more oblong, some with off ramps, some are wide some are small. There is no consistency.

And that is what makes it a mess. You can't really learn what to do if you only get there once a month or so, and with every intersection different you don't have time to read all the rules as you approach, get in the proper lane for -this- one, and then watch for traffic and pedestrians from all those possible intersections of such.

Just a mess.

I think truckers like round a bouts. But that is probably because a round a bout is a game of slow motion chicken, and the bigger the vehicle, the more likely you are to win.... I see semis just go through and anyone else needs to stop for them. To be fair, I saw one big truck stop at that twin double lane round a bout and boy, he was stuck there, there was no way for him to get moving again, traffic was non stop.

A lot of these new concepts in traffic control are hard on the average person, much less if we are older and a bit set in our ways.

The night before last, I was on my way home from my lady friend's house. Not one, but TWO idiots nearly hit me head on in MY LANE!!!
The first one seemed to think it was OK to go out into my lane (by a LOT) to pass a stopped vehicle. There was nobody behind me. He should have waited.
The second one was obviously not watching where he was going. Just drifted into my lane like he was texting maybe? He heard my horn loud and long!

Paul,

I suppose you are talking of Mankato? (maybe New Ulm?) I go to Mankato quite a lot and will try to avoid the "mixers" as much as I can. I fully agree with you that they are a mess and very confusing. I think the general population doesn't like them, but once "guvment" has made up their mind to do round-abouts, the main stream citizens have no more say.

City of Owatonna has some round-abouts now, too.
