perkins motor quit

last nitei ws running corn with my massey 750 combine,,,.while making the turn to go back thru the field,. the engine quit abruptly, belts squealed to a stop,,the motor crankt just fine but no smoke ,. today I tried ether,. it never offered to fire ,. have not pulled valve cover yet to see if valves move . I am thinking a timing gear and or chain ,,.does anyone know if a 354 perkins has a timing chain

6.354 and 6.372 have gears, no chains..

Have you checked the shut off? Is it electric? Al

update ,,. i suspect the mechanical lift pump on the engine,. it was changed out 4yrs ago ,. and is a bugger to get to . however before I replace it ,.. gonna double chek for fuel delivery to filtrs,.. if fuel is present with strong dekivery ,, then it is probably a sheared rotor in the injector pump ,.. can you agree diesel tech ?
