Mahindra review

The only problem I have with the whole thing is the ASSUMPTION that the dealer would come out and fix the tractor under warranty for absolutely free. Both Lanse and his mechanic friend made this ASSUMPTION, and were quite vocal about the fact that the dealer would be charging for the service call.

In all likelihood, this was CLEARLY spelled out in the contract that Lanse signed when he bought the tractor. Smarmy dealers like that always make sure their I's are dotted and their T's are crossed. You take it to a lawyer and they will tell you that you don't have a leg to stand on.

Unfortunately it was his fault for not reading the contract thoroughly before signing on the dotted line. Bad on the dealer for preying on the fact that most people don't read the contract, and it sucks that Lanse got suckered, but a contract is a contract.

The reason a dealer would not charge for warranty service is because the manufacturer reimburses them for labor and parts. GM reimburses the dealers for mechanic time at "book rate" for example. My guess is that the Mahindra warranty is for parts ONLY. If the dealer wants to lose money on the labor that's up to them.

I noticed that also. He could have just disconnecter the plug to the switch and slid a homemade jumper wire into the connector and gone on from there, if that didn't work. Once the wire is cut!! NO WARRANTY.

Cutting the wires and disabling the safety switches is drastic. A friend has the 4wd version and it would not start about a year ago. I used jumpers to bypass the switches temporarily. Problem was solved when I removed the ground wire attached to the frame by the battery and scratched the paint off the frame so the ground could make contact. Factory painted the frame then put ground wire on.

I didn't watch the whole video. Lance likes to hear himself talk too much. I bet, if he had set on the seat, the tractor would have started. My Kubota has a seat safety switch built in and I bet they all do these days. If ytou do not set in the seat to make contact with the switch, it doesn't start. If you stand up, while in gear, it shuts off. If you are running the pto, and try to leave the seat, it shuts off. Stick to welding, Lance. Don't lend your tractor to Lance, anyone.

You didn't even watch the first 30 seconds then. As I recall one of the first things he did was jump up in the seat when it wouldn't start.

I've also seen him start it from the ground in other videos.

The warranty has proven to be worthless, so he didn't lose anything by cutting the wires.

He sat on the edge of the seat, not ON the seat. He wouldn't have tripped that switch because he was afraid to get his azz wet.

Are you guys serious? I'm gonna say "no", and that some here are just trying to stir the pot, no one can be this stupid.

I've owned this thing for more than a year - I think I'd know if my machine had a seat safety switch - which it does not.

This has to be trolling, I cant even.

Additional side notes: The warranty as mentioned is pretty useless, people who say I voided it are clearly incredibly ignorant of American warranty laws, and in terms of
troubleshooting - I'm not a mechanic, I was just doing what the tech at the dealer told me to over the phone. Thanks for playing.

Sorry Lanse, I thought you had some good info for future buyers and never gave a thought that these guys would jump all over you. I know I would be severely disappointed if I bought a new tractor and was treated like this by the dealer.

Its all good man, if people are dense enough not to know that I'd be aware of what basic safety switches a machine has after owning it, working on it, and using it almost daily for
more than a year, that I wont let the products of their small minds bother me. Thats such an ignorant statement that some have made that I'm struggling to even take it seriously.

But either way - its all good man, no hard feelings! I'm making good money on that video now, and I plan to put the ad revenue from people watching it so much towards another
machine, so no hard feelings :) I'm glad you enjoyed the review!

I've not seen an agricultural warranty yet where travel time/service calls were covered under warranty. It would have been spelled out in the contract or company invoice when the deal was signed. What happens if the dealer sells a piece of equipment 8 hours from home? You expect them to drive all that way/stay overnight for the same rate they are charging their local guy who manages to get his tractor in to the shop?

On a side note, I've not heard anything good about Mahindra's product, parts, or service. They're cheap for a reason. You get what you pay for.

Ah, so they charge that to cover their costs? Okay then, can you explain to me how it costs $300 to drive ~18 miles one way? I must be doing something wrong with my trucks

Its all good - the dozens of malicious comments on there were a little bothersome - accepted, all is well.

Lanse,
You have convinced me to stay away form Mihindra tractors.
Guess I'll have to stay with my 60+ gassers that are simple to work on.

Thanks for the heads up.

I thought the video was good, I actually watched it all as I was interested in the old IH design tractors.

What actually hits on the 3pt? There were no issues on the old IH's of that design. Appears you sit higher on the Mahindra compared to a say 384, perhaps the seat is back further, looks like the steering wheel is dished up higher too.

I don't know what shop rates/service call rates are like around your area but around here an agricultural service call is $70 base charge (Canadian funds) + travel time @ $95/hour . The clock starts running when the mechanic leaves the dealership and stops when he gets back.

The construction/industrial dealers charge a much higher rate. Usually $150 to start and I have heard as high as $175 per hour for travel time and labour.

I'm not trying to run you down or anything but dealership's are there to not only cover their costs but make some money as well. They wouldn't be in business long if they did everything at cost or less than cost. When dealing with a dealership always ask lots of questions, can't assume anything. Unfortunately you don't have much recourse as it was all likely laid out in the fine print of the deal. Take it as a lesson learned and maybe next time spend a little more up front to get a better quality item/better dealership support. I've learned this lesson myself the hard way too.
