Pigs are people?

Believe it or not, but here in Ontario, an animal rights activists argued in court that "...animals should be persons under law..." While I'm sure most farmers would find this ludicrous, take a minute and think about one writer 's response to the newspaper article. The letter goes on to say, in part, that since animals would no longer be sold as meat for consumption if the law was so changed, farmers would still be responsible for their care. These sows and piglets now equal to people, would be considered low income families since they have no jobs, and would be eligible for government assistance programs. At today's support levels, a sow with eight piglets would qualify for about $3200 per month for housing and food. Here, as well, health care and drugs would be provided free of care.A 'school bus' would pick the small ones up and take them away for part of the day. As they aged, they would also receive an old age security pension. Since the farmer is caring for them ,he would receive these benefits on behalf of the pigs and see to their care. So, a barn full of pigs...and of course all other animals under a farmer's care....would amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars payable to the guardians of these animals per year, paid out of government collected tax revenue.

Hmm , might not be such a bad idea after all.....LATWTTB....laughing all the way to the bank. Ben

How many animals/pigs does the activist have living in his house? That always seems to be the bottom line with those people: Do as I say, not as I do.

I think it's just a ploy to get more "people" eligible to vote who are tied to most generous party come voting time........

Some folks have waaaaay too much time on their hands than to dream up s**t like that. Put your time to more constructive use and the world would be a better place!!!

Not really. Corporations are separate legal entities, but whether they are stockholder owned, family owned, or sole ownership, they are owned by people. Taxing a corporation is really double taxation. First, the corp. pays taxes, which are really passed on to the consumer, if the form of higher prices. The stock owners pay again on the income/dividends.

Ontario? means the Canadians have about as many political active, confused Liebural nut cases as in US. Canada elected recently a second generation abundant? And now the fringe element of abundant voters is trying for some publicity or a payoff? Or is pushing a vegan diet law? Maybe hasn't cleaned hog house lately so doesn't know difference in toilet training of hogs to human- the hog if given enough room is instinctive 'Latrine' animal while humans descended from tree dwelling apes aren't, drop body waste, throw it around like ancestors until old enough, potty trained-- but that training can take a loong time for some. Which brings us back to the animal rights activist who seems to be full of hog $!it. Site has a potty filter that gets annoying at times, but some school kids use the computer also, fun at times to dodge the filter. RN

Very reasonable explanation of court ruling, but, another court may very well reverse their ruling. That is what I don't understand about courts and judges. How can the law be different just because of someone's opinion.
