The auctioneers anouncement

Odds and ends were being sold in the beginning, piles of stuff sold as lots.Shortly into the sale someone went to the auctioneer and said a carpet steamer machine was missing from his pile,,none of the piles were over 5 dollars . I liked what the auctioneer did.He stopped what he was selling and made an anouncement. He said,,someones carpet steamer is missing. If you hear me,you have five minutes to bring it back,It could be a mistake just bring it back.no problem. If not ,if anybody has seen you with it,if we get your plate number etc..I will call the police.I will prosecute,I dont care if its a 2 dollar item and it cost lots of time,I promise you I will press charges,,Im not sure but I Think it was brought back.

That's a switch. Every auction I've been to the understanding is once you buy it you're responsible to secure it.

he made that announcement in the beggining, but still let people know ,,also he said in the begining,if I cant get a bid on a pile and we leave it,,that doesnt mean its for free,so if you want something,,,bid ,,which I thought was fair he started at 1 dollar and kept piling sometimes too.

Good for him.At the Marion PA auction they have two uniform officers and several undercover people looking to catch thieves,if caught charges will be pressed and at the very least they
are never allowed on the premises again.

exact words of 3 good auctioneers I know in the southern ind area,.. from what I read of others posts my region is lucky to have such men of integrity ,.. j HY-kemper

a local auctioneer has people in the crowd watching the attendees if certain people show up he has his buddies shadow them those people he knows have been know to get things at a discount or go home with them.
he will say before sale starts there are people that have been know to take things that are not theirs i have people in the crowd watching you.

A 3 times a year consignment auction near me requires you to show a receipt and they search your vehicle to be sure what you have matches what's on the receipt. There is only one way off the property. They have county deputies on site. Not foolproof but seems to work pretty well.

Just talked to dad and an old air compressor tank was missing. You know, one of those that'd probably blow if it built up 100 psi and just never made it to the scrap wagon yet. Also had his ear muffs walk off, and he saw a guy wearing bright yellow gloves that later turned out to be missing from the milk house.

I'm sure a few other things walked off as well, but anything of value we tried to make sure there was a lock or screw or another way to secure it. Pain in the butt having to use a key to open a lock any time I need to get in the storage, but well worth it in the end. Lots of thieves and crooks out there, some of them you know or are in your own family.
