gas tractor engine additive

What do you think of the idea of adding 1oz of 2 cycle motor per gallon of gas for tractors with gas engines? This is something I heard from a tractor repair guy who has done it for years in his tractors. His take is that the 2 cycle engine oil helps to lubricate and condition the internal parts. He also thinks with todays "leaner, cleaner" gas, it is tougher on engines. Just one repairman's thoughts shared about gas tractor engines. Your thoughts?

I can't see where it would hurt anything in my landscaping business I have all two cycle handheld equipment including Toro pro line 21 inch two cycle hand mowers, I mix it 50:1, I hardly have straight gas for the wood splitter tiller ect, so I have use 2 cycle in them with no problems.

You might create a bit of carbon. I do it in the fall to winterize our motorcycles, but I wouldn't do it all year around. It also might depend on how hard your running the engine.

Wouldn't hurt a thing. Would probably make it smoke some.IMHO,not sure how benefit you would acctually get.Your money, your tractor.....

I can't see what it could hurt. A little upper lube is good. In my A and G John Deere all fuels, I dump in one gallon of diesel fuel to 8 or ten gallons of gas. Runs very smooth. Haven't had any problem with rust in the fuel system.

I forgot to mention that I add about a quart of diesel to every 5 gallons of gas for our Farmall C, it just seems to run better, and I hope it reduces the chances of corrosion in the gas tank.

I run Marvels Mystery oil and a fuel stabilizer in all my tractors year round for years no problems and no smoke from it.

I don't see that it would hurt, especially on a new, tight engine, or an engine that does a lot of sitting.

It would give the rings and valve guides some lubrication, help free up anything that may be prone to rust.

But for an engine that is showing some wear it would be of little to no benefit.

I use my gas tractors here on the farm - some pretty hard. When my chainsaw fuel isn't fresh I dump it in the Farmall M. I don't notice that it does anything but she runs pretty hard on the grinder every week so she doesn't carbon up or have a chance to let fuel get old. Growing up (when we used leaded fuel) our mechanic always told us to use the oil can to fuel the engine on the auger. It was one of those huge old Briggs engines. He always said those few tablespoons of oil mixed in with the gas were good for it. She never did fail to start. When leaded gas became obsolete I was driving a vw bug. I put a pint of ATF in with each fillup. I don't know if it did anything but it made me feel better.

I've burnt old 2 cycle has in gas engine. I've read some place mixing too much oil in a 2 cycle leans the engine and could damage it. Not sure if adding an ounce of oil to gas does any harm or good. But it a gas engine burns oil, deposits will show up on the plugs.

Why spend the money?

Thank you for all of your thoughts on this. I have a couple of tractors that are seasonally worked, a couple more for collector, and a couple that are used regularly. So there is a challenge with the tractors that don't run that often to make sure they keep in good shape as they ones that run on a regular basis. Yes, does this mean I have too many tractors...maybe, but really, what is too many? Didn't Roger Welsch stated 2.5 tractors per person on a farm? I have heard of using diesel fuel before and interested in the Marvels Mystery oil as well. Thank you again!

I add a few ounces in every 5 gal jug I pour in. Don't use mine enough any more so I do this as a rust prevenative. Sixty year old steel fuel tank and a cast iron carb like that dab of oil. There isn't enough oil to make it smoke or foul a plug but it's enough to stop rust from forming.

because it worx ,,. when LEFT DORMANT gassers stammer and bawk and just generally are not dependable,, I think because, because, of the alcohol evaporation in the carb leaving crud in there ,,. I actually will use303 hydraulic oil to prevent that ,, seafoanm does wonders and lucas fuel stabilizer ,. red heat worx good in frozen hydraulic oil as well as the carb ...best thing to do with a gasser being put to bed is drain the carb or at the very least turn of gas til it runs out

This past year my dad bought a 1936 Case 0 12 tractor. When we went to go get it he told use the way to mix the fuel before putting it in the tank. It went like this 5 gallons of fuel to one part of this jar of Marvin mist. oil mix in the tank. I guess this Marvin mist. oil was to be the lead to keep the valves from burning up. Who knows.
