Our oldest son was honored last night by the Oconee County Soil and Water Conservation District and Clemson Extension.
He won the "Horizon Farmer of the Year" award for his hard work and diligence in starting with a borrowed tractor and a small soybean patch. He now rents land and grows corn, soybeans, barley, wheat, and raises beef cattle. He has recently bought 5 broiler houses.
He is also on these boards.
Farm Bureau Board of Directors
Farm Service Agency Board
Beaverdam Watershed Board
First photo is he and his wife and girls.
Second is him and one of the high school seniors that work for him. He won the "Young Cattleman of the Year" award.
Third is left to right, our youngest son and his pregnant wife, me and my wife, oldest son and family, Clemson Farms manager and his wife (who are our best friends) and oldest son's in-laws.
Our son was harvesting soybeans yesterday and decided he could not go to the banquet.
I lied to him and said he had to be there because his wife was being honored by the high school FFA chapter where she is an assistant principle. He had no clue he was being honored.
Was over 160 farmers and spouses and extension, FFA and 4H people there.
