OT Neat Old House In Highland IL

Here's an old house that's for sale here in Highland IL. The original owners also owned the Schott Brewery at the other end of the
block from where their house was located. Their Brewery and their house were connected with an underground passage way. The tunnel has since been blocked off. Look at the pictures on the listing.

That sounds like a real bargain unless there are unseen problems.

Can you imagine what that would cost to build today!
 
Illinois is a cheap place to get a house. This one is for sale for $250,000.00 including all the antique furnishings.

I can't imagine how much it would cost to heat and cool a place like that. Need a second mortgage.

Looks like it could use some TLC in some areas... kitchen floor, foundation.
 

Nice house. I graduated from Collinsville High in 1982 and lived near Glen Carbon. We used to play Highland. I now live South of Wichita. I too had no idea prices were so low in that part of IL.
 
Illinois is one of the most economically depressed parts of the country with this particular town being one of the worst. This house is located in Cairo which is where the Ohio River and Mississippi River meet. I left there 43 years ago because there was no work there and the town is still on a steady decline still.
 
When you find out the property taxes you will now why the selling price is cheap. 15 years ago my boss had a 1950s three bedroom full basement ranch in town,$4,000.00 in taxes a year. My 4 bedroom, 30X40 shop, 4 lots,our restaurant, and 40ac farm with the old farm house cost me $1200.00 15 miles apart, IL and MO
