Power steering help needed

I have a new holland 1282 self propelled baler and I am having trouble with the steering,it is hydrostatic steering and it just doesnt have much power the steering wheel is hard to turn unless it is moving and it gets harder after it is run awhile and idle it down and you can just turn the wheel and no steering at all. Does this sound like the pump is just weak or in the steering gear. It looks like the same setup as used on the older international tractors. The steering is a ross gear company and I cant find out who made the pump, the control is also a ross gear co. Thanks for any help

I'd say the pump is weak/worn out. After all.the machine is 50 years old.See where you can hook a pressure gage to it. Test the pressure, that will tell you the story.

Some of the early New Holland hydraulic systems used Cessna pumps and valves. Hope this helps. Ron

GETS HARDER WHEN RUN AWHILE.. That is your key, weak pump will get weaker as it heats up but a DR said stick a gauge in the line and check pressure .

Thanks for the advice I will try and hook up a gauge to it. Looks like a old gm power steering pump may be made to fit may try that next
