Problem I have neeve ran into before

So I buy this Case VAC today. Engine was locked up but ATF and a few hours fixed that. The problem is this. Distributor cap has been off of it for who knows how long. Pulled the dust cover and the distributor is full of water. So I'm sure the advance weights etc are rusted up tight. So I may need to find a distributor for it or maybe I'll get lucky and be able to pull it drain it and then fill it with ATF and free things up

Dust cap fits under where the cap should be but where the rotor should be and is not lets water down and into the distributor. Dust cap on the VAC is a metal cover then fits into the distributor instead of over it like many brands do

old I have run into rusty distributor weight issues before. If they are real rusty just find a replacement. Particularly for a VAC. I bet that one would not cost $25-30 used. I have seen entire engines for $100-150. The ones I have tried to free up usually do not work right after they are all rusty. IF the springs are real rusty then they will need replaced. The rust reduces the diameter of the wire in the spring and they are weaker than they are originally. So the time/effort to free them up and replace the springs mean a good used replacement is usually simpler and better.

Wayyyyyy back when I was a used tractor dealer, I ran into that AND MUCH WORSE GRRRRRRRRRRR. A good clean up and re lube followed by a new set of springs and of course points and condenser may get her purrin like a cat in a creamery

I am restoring a '67 Datsun. The car ran pretty well before I started on it, but when I got to the distributor one advance spring was worn right through and the other was very close, and this was with no water.

That might be a fairly common distributor. I once had a VAC Case and a 44 Massey at the same time, and they both took the same distributor cap. Can't say about the body of the distributor.

(quoted from post at 09:36:38 10/29/16) 67 Datsun what?? That could be a B210 or 510 or a 260 or one of a number of pickup trucks

It's a 311. Though I expect that they all have the same advance springs at least until emissions in 1968.

I hope it's an SRL311! I had one back in the 80s. Great little sports car. Ran far faster than I should have been driving.

No,it is only a 1600. They were still pretty quick though. The one that I had in the early seventies would go 45 MPH in first, about 60 in second, around 88 in third, and around 108 in fourth.
