IN NEED OF TRACTOR HELP

Hello,
I have a Massey Ferguson 135 with a Perkins 3 cylinder gas engine. Has always ran good until recently. For the last few months when I use it I have had to keep playing with the choke to get it to run good enough to be able to use it. Usually end up about 1/2 way out. I ran it out of gas the other day and when I got it started back up it was dumping gas up the air cleaner hose, through my air filter and on the ground. I called a parts place and they gave me their advice. So far I have rebuilt the carb, points, condenser, cap, rotor, plugs, and plug wires. Now it starts up and runs good for a little bit, then dies. I was told now I need a new coil. I also discovered the solenoid on the carburetor has a bare wire and is arching. Could this have been my problem all a long??? Does the solenoid need to be replaced??? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Norm

You stated that you ran the tractor out of gas. Go right back to the gas tank , take off the sediment bowl and clean it , be sure gas flows freely from the tank , and clean out the fuel line . Think that would be a good start. Could have some crud in the tank too.

#1 dumping gas like it is means the float is sticking or the float needle seat is not as tight as it need to be. So you need to check that first and get that stopped or your air cleaner is real dirty so cause it to be choked.

#2 once you have the gas problem fixed you need to check your spark and make sure it is a good blue/white in color and will jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. Do that at the center wire of the cap and at All the plug wires.

Interesting,My friend has same MF 135 with Perkins gas engine
Many similar problems
I repaced Dist.,points plugs,wires
went threw the carb,Adjusted valves
I still don't feel happy with it
The valve adjustment seemed to help the most
I also replaced ign.switch
I will be moderating suggestions as well

Take and unscrew the sediment bowel and quickley screw in a pipe plug so you don't loose a lot of gas, and then clean the base of the bowel. You will find lots of crap in the body that you can't blow out. Once you get the crap out, be quick and remove plug and screw in bowel body with valve closed. Keep your elbows up or you will have gas dripping from them HeHe. BTDT

The solenoid on the carb... Not exactly sure what that is, usually an anti dieseling/anti backfire valve that shuts off the fuel to the main jet when the ignition is turned off.

If that is what it is, and it is shorting out, could very well be the problem.

One way to check would be to unplug the solenoid and see if the engine dies. If it does, the short needs to be repaired or the solenoid replaced.

Even if it doesn't stop the engine, the short could be drawing down the voltage to the coil to the point it can't run.

Whatever the problem, the surest way to find it is to catch it in the act. As soon as it stops, be ready to check for spark.

I believe that model has a fuel pump, if so check the fuel flow. With the fuel line disconnected after the pump, start the engine, collect the fuel in a clean glass. The pump should deliver a full strong shot of fuel each time the pump cycles. Look at what you catch, if there is rust, trash, water in the glass, that will also be in the carb.
