3 pt Stabilizers help

I have an IH 240 utility that has a 3 pt added. No one ever put on a stabilizer or it's long gone. I'm pretty new to the farm thing so what the best way to rig up a stabilizer system? There are unused holes I can use on the 3 pt bars but I have nothing but axle it seems to attach to. Does it really matter how far from the body I mount, or if I put a chain and turnbuckle on each side will that do the trick? I have a feeling I'm over thinking it but I want to get wisdom before I make a mistake!

Look at the Parts section and see if there is a kit available for your tractor. It usually contains a set of pin mounting brackets that will align with the pivot point of the hitch lower links plus the bars themselves which attach to the lift arms at the pin hole ends.

These are the stabilizers on the home-made 3 PH on my D-17 Allis.
The prior owner built the 3 PH and in some ways it leaves something to be desired.
On the other hand, these adjustable stabilizers work really well.
Some type of pivot point must be fabricated on a plane close to that of the lower lift arm pivots which may or may not be easily done on your tractor.
BTW, these screw type stabilizers are available at TSC.

If you observe Brians pic below you will see the triangulation between the stab arms and the lift arms. This is what you should be looking to achieve as parallel arms won't help stabilize much.

Hi, make sure you attach the stabilizer bar aligned perfectly with the lift arms anchor point, as Jerry said. Ed Will Oliver BC
