Wednesday Stella's one of the largest produce stands in sj closed for the end of season. Pastors about 10 miles away will close this weekend. RATS! Another season is shot. It got to almost 85* here yesterday. Go figger. There are still tons of green produce in the fields. Thousands and more tomatoes and zucchini just hanging. I went out and just looked at the plants to get depressed.

Here in central NY we are just now getting the rain we needed during the growing season. There's lots of "green" out there, with messed up plants still trying to live, or make a comeback. But not much of any ripening going on now. Wife just thinned out her big lush tomato plants, hoping to get some sun on a few green tomatoes. I'm afraid the days are short enough that it ain't goin to happen.

you need chickens, They love all the things you mention plus bug and weed seeds. fresh eggs aren't to bad I get $3.00 a doz 2.50 if you buy 3 or more.

And I picked some fresh lettuce this evening. The only veggie I have ever harvested in mid October is spuds until today. This summer our lettuce got away from us and went to seed. With Marilyns bad hip and me running to my dads house about every day there wasn't time to pay attention to the lettuce. So I mowed it off six weeks ago or so, maybe sooner than that. Well the seeds the mower scattered grew all over the place, even in the grass so this evening I picked some to put n my sandwich. The temp got down to 26 the other night. Everything in the garden went limp as a rag except the lettuce, it's still flourishing.
