Sodium Vapor Yard Light

My yard light has quit working. New bulb and light sensor hasn't fixed it. Got them from a neighbor who used to work for a small town near us. Is there a way to test the ballast to see if it's bad? Cooper Lighting 220C173 G01 ballast.

Did you replace the ignitor along with the ballast? If not problem's likely a failed ignitor module.

If you buy a ballast it will cost almost as much as a new fixture. I have had low and high pressure sodium fixtures and they lasted just long enough to be out of warranty. I went back to mercury vapor and that's been 10 years ago.

I agree with the other posters, if you have to start buying ballast, lamps, and a bunch of other parts, you will be better off buying a new LED fixture. What wattage/ lumens is your existing fixture. Probably can get by with 75% of that number for LED, its just more efficient at getting light out of the fixture. Probably will not be many years before Sodium goes away entirely.

i tore the ballast out of mine wired it for 120v, bought one of those 50w corn lights on ebay, $12.50, brighter than 65w flourescent, good for 1 year sofar
