8n oil pressure

does anyone have a check list for oil pressure dropping on an 8n after a few minutes use other than the engine being worn out. Mine will start with 60 pounds pressure then drop to 8 to 10 pounds pressure any advise appreciated

We need a little more info...

What oil are you running?

What RPM are you getting 60 PSI?

What RPM are you getting 8-10 PSI?

Are the pressure comparisons based on cold start vs. up to operating temperature readings?

The 60 PSI reading is a little high, has the relief valve been modified in an attempt to raise the pressure?

Let us know...

Unless you've recently rebuilt the engine, properly, you shouldn't expect much more than 10 psi or so on a worn engine. My 8N starts out about 50 and drops to about 15 when warmed up, my 9N, more worn than the 8N, is a little less.

Well i am not your local Ford guru but and engine is and engine and over the years i have addressed this on a hand full of Ford's and the #1 cause of this is it is wore out . Way to much clearance in the main's and rods cam way to loose in it's bore and the oil pump is almost toast . Now i could tell you like one shaddy tractor jockey told a young woman that had horses and bought a Sherman and Williams overhauled 8N ford off this guy as he told her that when they over hauled this tractor they installed the oil pressure gauge back wards and it would go down after you ran it . One of her neighbors was one of my customers and he got me involved in it and we did the best we could with the limited funds that she could afford . I was able to bring her up from 5 psi hot to 30 psi hot by installing undersized bearings on the rods and mains and rebuilding the oil pump and for summer use we steeped up her oil to 40 weight and for winter use 30 weight . She mowed two pastures a couple times a year hauled horse apples and moved a little snow in the winter . Was it a permanent , no but it got her by .
