Quality Cooler?

I had a big plan of purchasing a new cooler at the end of season close out. The ones I have looked at are cheapened up Chinese units with minimal insulation. Igloo does not even have insulation in the lid. What are other people using with good experience?

Any help/suggestions appreciated.

My students made them for a mass production class. Lined with sheet plastic with urethane seam seal, insulated with 1" polyisocyanurate foam (construction sheathing, not styrene of any type. Tuff R is a brand. and made inside a birch plywood box with a piano hinge lid and a overcenter latch. They keep things for about 30 hours. Jim

Spend big money get a yeti cooler. There's a video of one in a fire put the fire out and still had ice in it.

A good quality cooler is not hard to find, but may not be found at big box or discount stores. There has been a huge growing market on nice coolers though so they are getting more abundant and popular. Look up coolers online or try sporting goods stores. Certain features might be a preference too like, hinges, latches and drain plugs.

The names I know of that offer great coolers are RTIC, Yeti, & Pelican. Cabelas has their own label but not sure who makes it. since you mentioned it, Igloo actually has a real good cooler too, called the sportsman.

If you want a small extremely well insulated cooler get one that is powered off car battery. I keep one in my car for traveling. Power it up while driving. I keep a bottle of frozen water in cooler to help keep things cold when I'm not driving. I'm impressed with how well insulated the cooler is, not to mention it's better than using ice if you just have a few items.

Don't discount a cooler because it has thin insulation. I bought a big blue Coleman cooler from BJ's Wholesale last year and it holds 20lbs of ice for 3 days in the summer heat with minimal melting. There was still ice in the cooler after 5 days. Took 6 days for the ice to melt completely.

They're doing something different with the insulation these days.

Coleman "Extreme 5" Hard to find in stores. get them online. They tested equal to the Yeti for 1'4 the price.

Don't get a Yeti thinking it will do what they say it will do, it's an all right cooler but way over priced. About the best thing I can say about a Yeti is that it is bull dog tough, and will outlast an Igloo (in the sun) about 10 to 1.
