Bought another deutz. Need help.....

Just picked up a 6206 off a guy for 1500$ bucks. A great deal I think. It's 4x4 and it has a loader on it. The only bad thing about it is that the previous owner painted it black. Yes black. The whole thing. And the front drive shaft has a broken yoke. So only 2x4 at the moment. I have 2 other deutz tractors but both are 2x4. A new shaft from deutz is 1100$ which I think is crazy. Thinking about trying to build my own with what's left of the original one and an old truck drive shaft. I wanted to see if anyone had any pictures of a drive shaft for one because I'm having a really hard time finding any. Thanks for any help

56oliver some of the big truck parts places can repair that shaft.don t know where you live to recommend where to go. RB

Im sure any shop that rebuilds automotive or truck drive shafts could fix it, Ask soeone from your
local auto parts store or machine shop

I would do that but I only have one half of the shaft. The rest of it is gone. So I'm trying to figure out if it's one that's solid or if it slides in an out of itself like some drive shafts. Have any ideas? I can't find any pictures

ok now i get the rest of the story i didnt know you only had half of the driveshaft. I thought just it was broken . I would still atleast try a machine shop or auto parts store to head you in the right direction

Yea I definitely will. Was just curious if anyone else had one they could post a picture of because I own a machine shop and could easily build one I just need to know what the other end looked like

Is the yoke remaining on the axle? With measurements
metric pto stuff is pretty common these days.

They usually have a slip joint on them unless the tractor has
the concentric pivot / input shaft.

If the axle end and the transmission end are fixed (no slip yoke), then the drive shaft will have to have a slip yoke on one end. Otherwise you couldn't install it, and it needs some breathing room as everything moves.

Take some accurate measurements of the existing yokes, and a measurement from cup center of the axle to cup center of the transmission. A drive shaft shop can build one from what you have plus whatever they may have laying around or get new.

56oliver:

You stated that the machine is a Four Wheel Drive, just look at the OTHER DRIVESHAFT and you'll know exactly what the broken driveshaft looked like; only difference may be in length.

56oliver. If the yokes are good on the axle and trans, you have a machine shop you can fix or make a new shaft, U joints are available in all kinds of different sizes. Like you said use an old truck shaft with slip joint in it, cut down, weld up. No need to balance, turns pretty slow. Bob

I'm not sure the shaft depicted in the attached link (from the German Ebay) will fit your Deutz. It might, however, give you an idea of what a Deutz Gelenkwelle (or Kardanwelle) for FWA looks like.

I gotta ask: WHAT other driveshaft?

It's a tractor. The only driveshaft is the one running to the front axle.

It would be a good idea to know what steel was used to make the driveshaft before you make your own. Europe has a tendency to make parts smaller using stronger steel. Just saying.
