Ford 3000 runs rough...

I have a 1966 Ford 3000. Gave it a complete tune-up and installed a Zenith carb...with new gas and dry gas additive. The darned thing still runs rough when given the throttle. Starts up fast and idles nice but that's it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't know if this means anything, but I noticed that when I removed the connector on the back of the carb, it spits out a little gas...it that normal? Thanks...

Rough as in when revving to a higher RPM or rough at higher RPM?

Rough at higher RPM...

Two thoughts here: first, you said you added dry gas additive. You might have more of that stuff percentage-wise
than intended. This just happened last wk to my folks' garden tractor. Exact same symptom as you describe. I
found out that a whole can of that additive (which is alcohol) went in...and the engine started doing what yours
does. Had them drain the tank & refill with new gas...problem instantly cleared up. Second, when I put the
Zenith on our 3000 - which is tired & low compression, I eventually dropped the float setting a bit. But we
didn't have the kind of symptom you have. Hope this helps.
P.s. - of course, also make sure you have good sparks, that vacuum advance is working, etc.

Thank you for your response. The tractor ran just as lousy before the dry gas as afterward...and it had new gas beforehand...no luck there. You may be right about the float...perhaps the gas level is too high as it came from the factory. Spark seemed to be fine. Got a needle in a haystack here...

Got it...I'll give it a go...thanks...

Check the vacuum advance and mechanical advance, if the timing doesn't advance properly it'll run like crap.
