PTO Shaft Slipping

I have my manual for my 1951 8N and I am following the diagram for the PTO assembly but when I go to use my brushhog it pulls the shaft forward after a short time of mowing and then the oil comes running out. Any suggestions on what I could be missing? I am putting on the seal with a press, using the snap rings. I feel like I am missing some thing.

Assuming it pulls the shaft out toward the back, not forward. Here are two ideas: one is that the snapring groove is worn and allowing the snap ring to slip out of the groove.
(might require a new, square cornered groove to be machined in the PTO housing) or the snap ring could be beveled and worn allowing it to escape, or a combination of the two. The
second is that the PTO shaft is binding and not allowing a change in length. (it should telescope easilyin and out at least a foot) Lubrication may be needed on the splines or
square parts of the shaft. If you take it apart make sure to keep the Ujoint components aligned on the same plane. Jim
