Another bites the dust

Does that mean that Bass Pro Shops will now sell rebranded
Jinma tractors in camouflage colors at twice the price too?
Probably, but they'll raise the price of everything else to put
them on "sale" like Cabela's has the last year or so.
Both WAY over priced on most anything they sell IMHO.

Cabelas branded stuff seemed to be better quality than Bass Pro (Redhead) branded stuff, hope
they don't mess it up.

OK, now for a "I got a deal " story...

Couple weeks ago, Cabelas had Remington 783's with a scope for $299.95. Then I got an email
coupon for an additional 10% off. Bought 3 $100 gift cards from ebay for $246...AND there was a
$40 rebate...

Taxes and all, got the rifle in .308 for $196.85

As I tried explaining to my wife when a daughter blabbed about me getting it, how could I not buy
it at a price like that?

Interesting how, after reading this, and doing some research, it took a while to dig through all the wonderful talk of "combining forces" to find that indeed, Bass Pro bought Cabelas.

I've thought both places were over priced on a lot of things through the years. I buy most of my fishing gear at Fleet Farm and my hunting gear wherever I find it. Not above buying from either. Guess that I won't shop at Cabela's anymore.

It will be interesting to see if they keep the Cabellas open or not.
Here in Northwest Indiana the two stores are less than 20 miles apart.
Their both over priced but it's fun to go through the stores.

Some years ago, maybe 5, I purchased an item from Cabelas and it was defective. When I asked for a good one they just shrugged me of. Never bought again

(quoted from post at 20:02:25 10/03/16) There goes another good company. I like Cabelas and Hate pro bass.

I've been to BassPro several times. I find their prices to be very much in line with any internet window shopping I have done. I've even priced a few firearms and found those to be what I expected. Since I am a resident of Iowa, any firearms purchase I make HAS to be from a firearms dealer in Iowa. There is NOT a Cabela's anywhere in Iowa, but there are several Bass-Pro Shops.

Wow. finally, a comment about Cabela's that's positive and a negatory about Bass Pro. If I stand on my barn roof, I can see the Bass Pro shop in Altoona (Iowa-NOT Pennsylvania). Nearest Cabela's is close to Minneapolis and we've gone there several times. When Bass Pro opened here I was disappointed in their offerings. Sportsman's Warehouse has better prices and more knowledgeable employees. I can't see their place (Ankeny) from my barn roof, though.

You know for how similar I find the stores I thought they were owned by the same corporation all along. When I got married I went to the Cabelas in Prairie Du Chien Wisconsin as it is not too far away from me. I wanted to buy my Groomsman and Ushers pocket knives as presents. Something they could use. Do you think I could find some basic pockets knives at Cabelas? No! Do you think I could find someone to help me there that knew what basic pocket knives were? No! I left there, went to Starks in town, the sporting goods store that has been in town for years. I walked in the door and started looking, a fellow came up to me and asked what I needed, I told him and he got me 8 Buck knives at a great price.

Now in defense for Cabelas, I have found that their button up shirts are a very good quality and I wear them at work.

So I have had good and bad. Goes that way.

Darn shame, I remember shopping at the original Cabelas store in sidney, old 3 story building on the corner of the main N-S and E-W streets and the old man ran it. Their catalog was 20-30 pages, think 8 1/2 x 11 sheets folded in half. He was a great guy and well thought of in the area, his wife not so much and the kids even less so. When the did an addition on their house to house his taxidermy (tall enough to hold a full mount giraffe) she went thru every contractor in Sidney and a few from surrounding area.

I shop at the Bass-Pro in Council Bluffs, Iowa. If you can't find it there, it doesn't exist.

First year we were married, wife bought me a Cabela's 50 cal Hawken rifle kit in flintlock. Beautiful wood and furniture. Took weeks but it came out perfect. 4 years later I lost the flash hole plug. Called them up, had one in the mail 3 days later, no charge.
