8N won't start when warm

My 8N, although it is about wore out, always started good, a little choke and it was running. It started being a little harder start, but still not bad. I can run it for a couple of hours or longer under hard load using a bush hog and it runs fine. Then shut it off and it won't even begin to start until it sets for a few hours or overnight, then starts ok. Seems to have fire at plug but won't start. 12 volt system, turns over real fast. Just acts like not getting fuel. Took the air intake hose off the carb and there appears to be fuel there when choked, but won't start. Any suggestions on where to start looking.

First off front mount distributor or side mount can make a difference as to what maybe wrong.

Think it has spark well check that when it will not start. Make sure it ha a good blue/white spark tha twill jump a 1/4 inch gap or more when trying to start it. If it is a front mount try a hot wire from the battery ignition side to the coil and it is starts good chance the resister the came with it from the factory is going bad and has high ohms

You say appears to be fuel. Pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good stead flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in under 3 minutes. Also try holding your hand over the air intake and try to start it. You should feel a good suction and also get a gas covered hand. Shoot it might even try to start if you do that

A weak coil or a bad condenser are two elements. An other can be a high resistance primary circuit. From the key to the coil to the points, a weak connection, or bad connection in the key, can cause it. Jumping from the battery hot post to the coil input side, to see if a hot wire can eliminate the problem. If the points and condenser are good, and while cranking it has a spark that jumps 1/4 inch nice and blue, it is not the ignition. Jim

I once knew a flat head ford V8 in a ford F-6 truck that acted that way. It had about 0 compression and the oil pressure needle was on 0 when the oil was warm, in other works worn out. If you stalled the thing yo were done for at least half an hour.

My very worn 9N doesn't like to restart when hot. If I get it spinning and open the throttle all the way up and return to idle it starts every time. I have no idea why it works. Touch the choke and you might as well go eat lunch. It runs great otherwise. Worth a try

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will try them and see what happens. Could be in the distributor. Not a fan of the front mount, not easy to work on. I'm sure it has spark, but probably more yellow than blue.
