Tonight's Harvest

Here's a few pictures of them shelling our corn. Two tractor trailers, grain buggy and Frank the combine...
Most of the corn is off in our area here in Highland, IL.

Neat nighttime pictures. I checked my earliest corn on a hill this evening and I'm guessing it at 20 percent. That's dry for sept 22 in northwest Iowa. I think it's 105 day corn.

Great pictures of the backbone of the nations food supply. I loved night time corn harvesting as the cool temps and higher humidity enhanced the smells of the corn being shelled and the dust seemed to be reduced. The sounds of the corn ears going through the cylinder and into the shakers along with the motor humming at full throttle is like a symphony as you can tell when you hit the best corn and the clean grain elevator is at full capacity. The worst is harvesting a bad crop and you can go as fast as you want and couldn't plug the feeder even if you tried. Congrats on getting out your harvest.

Yours is last wow what a difference 200 miles makes cause up around Peoria things are just getting started. The only ones going are the guys with too many acres or those worried about stalk quality. I think this weekend and next week there will be a lot more action including ours.

I'll be rolling into the milo in a week and beans not far behind. It's time for the last fire drill - go over every truck and machine with a fine toothed comb. Congrats on a crop in the bin. That's a good feeling.

Southeast SD just tested some of the
corn at 26%.. About right for us. Some
guys are still doing sileage and
earlage these last couple days. Beans
are coming along so fast it's hard to
believe.

Drove from Ottawa area to Vandalia yesterday to pick up a tractor and it was actually one of the nicest drives I have ever made down 51. I was a beautiful day and were so many guys running, I actually had stuff to look at!

It quite amazing how many fields were complely clean as I got further south. Up by Ottawa, handful of guys are out, lot of headlands open to moisture test, but that is it. Few fields here and there are clean.
