Fridge on the fritz

Refrigerator comes on, runs about 4 min and shuts off, Repeats the 4 min on a few minutes later, I kinda hear a clicking sound sometimes. Stuff in top freezer is frozen, stuff in refrigerator part is not cold enough. Frigidaire brand. About 8 years old.
Any thoughts?
 
Is there a condenser fan?

Sounds like it may not be getting enough air over the condenser, clogged with lint, condenser fan not running.
 
On our 6 year old LG, it was a relay controlled by the computer board that
Went bad causing the condenser fan not to run.
Searched for two weeks for a computer board (supposedly obsolete)
Because the appliance guy first thought it was the board.
Gained a couple pounds eating out those two weeks.
 
Check condenser to see if it's covered in lint. Check condenser fan to make certain it's pulling air across coils. Check fan between freezer and fresh food to make sure it circulates air. Make sure food items aren't blocking air flow. As last resort,move food to ice chests,unplug fridge and use a blow dryer to direct air through coils in freezer. Ocasionally evap coils ice over for no reason and this last step will defrost coils. If you have a garage fridge you can just move food there and leave one in house unplugged with doors open overnight instead of useing blow dryer. Make sure drain line is open. If drain stop's up condensate stand's and cover's coils with ice.
 

Mine was doing that. I thought that the cooling coils were in an enclosed channel in the back, but it turned out they were underneath and plugged with lint.
 
Best guess, lint, second guess, if your fridge is like my LG, it actually has dual compressors one for the freezer one for the fridge, the fridge one could be frosted up, defrost may fix it.
 
Thanks this reminded me I hadn't cleaned my refer coils in a year. Just did it and they were plugged full.
