Replaced two 3ET batteries with one group 31 - works great!

Asked about switching two 3ET batteries with one battery. Most recommendations were to switch to one group 31 battery. Found one with slightly over 1000 cold cranking amps at Theisens Farm Store for about $90. Was able to eliminate the short jumper cables putting the two 12 volts in parallel. Seemed like one battery would fail causing both to be basically be shot since you had to replace them in pairs. Very happy with the change. The only thing I have left to do is modify the hold down straps. To the credit of the batteries I took out -they were John Deere Strong Box batteries and the date on the ends was 2006. They lasted a good long time.

Sounds good. That's a lot more time than I can get out if those batteries!

I have usually gone for the highest CCA's too. I learned last winter that the higher the CCA's, the shorter the battery life. I have two 31S, 750 CCA's in my combine and it starts immediately. So I may have to re think the 950 CCA's in the future.

The JD Strong Box Batteries I have in my 350D came from the JD dealer at least 12ys ago. They are still doing well. When not in use I have a Battery Tender on them.
