Okay how nuch would you say it is worth?

Some time ago my dad had bought a 1950 John Deere G with a wide front. I had to go out there and pick it up than bring it to him after he had to buy this tractor. Since my dad has past on about three weeks ago and the estate splits to all of us I need to ask how much would it be worth in money. So if you can look at this picture and give me some ideal what to offer my older sister and my older brother in the value of this tractor. It would be a great help to me because I might have a good ideal what to give them money wise to each of them before paying to much for this tractor.

2/3 of what your dad paid for it. (looks like a 7000 dollar tractor if it runs as well as it looks). Jim

Private sale, guessing you could list it around $7000 and see what happens.
Run through an auction depending on the crowd and area might only go 3-5 plus you have to get it there and pay sale commission.

I am not sure what the market in CA is but that is a solid $4500-5500 tractor around here. The fellow saying $7000 have not been to any sales lately. There are not many two cylinders bring that kind of money now.

This is a nice tractor and means something to you as it was your Dad's. The trouble is it is not rare. The wide front is not as common but the rest can be bought in many places. Also the demand is going down too.

I started farming with a JD "G". If I had to keep it to use I would hardly take one as a gift. They where not fun to operate 10-12 hours day. You where dirty and tired from operating that beast. Plus it was NOT a large tractor anymore. My Uncle's MF 65 would run circles around it in the field.

Gotta remember, tho, it has the wrong wide front ( square is for number series, not letter series) also they never came with 3 pt hitch, altho it's a nice one it's not original. No fenders. Probably $ 4000 around here.

How could they have been that much worse than the gas A of same vintage. The A & B of that time were the tractors I most liked to use of any tractors I ever owned. 51A, 49B, 46B & 38A. The one I did not care for but my wife liked it was the 50AR. Newest tractors owned were 65 Ford 4100, 68 Ford 4100 & 68 Ford 5100. Drove a 2020 at work, could not hold a candle to the Fords in workability or ease of handling. Drove uncles 2010 utility and 3020 row crop with wide front and you could not give me any of those tractors to use. Also had Farmal H and Moline U and Ford 2N (still have, Dad bought new in May of 44) & 9N & NAA and Ferguson TO 30. The only one of the New Generation or later that I would own would be a gas 2010 row crop or gas 1010 row crop or 1020 Gas HU.

ya you would like to buy it for that and more than double your money on a flip. saw lots of your junk way higher than that and looked worst.

I had a 51 G that I restored back in about 1992. It didn't have a wide front, but was a very nice tractor. I sold it in 1997 for five thousand. But I keep hearing that the two cylinder models are going down in value. They say that today's collectors want the new generation tractors.

Didn't know that square wide front would fit a G.Is that a direct bolt on?Or did some holes have to be cut?

Thank you for giving me some prices on this John Deere G. I just had to get some good ideal on the prices and they where all close to what we paid for this tractor a couple years ago. My dad has about two other tractors around his house and so I will give my older bother and my sister a price for all three tractors. They can take it out of my money I will be getting out of the estate. Then they do not have to try to sell them off but I will have all of my dads old tractors then. Thank you again for your answers they where a big help.

The square front end was already on this tractor when my dad bought it. If it was not an option to order and was put on as a add on they must had done a good job. I just thought that some of these JD G models came that way with this option that could had been bought threw John Deere at that time.

Brent, the wide front was an option on the "G" but it was round bodied not square. The square bodied wide fronts came on the 20 and 30 series two cylinders. Not sure if they came on the 50-60-70 style, as most of them I've seen were round bodied.

I see a 4500. to 5500. tractor with the new rubber. A square Wide frt looks better than the round tube. I know they Bolt
right on. The 3 PTH isn't mounted correctly either. I never had enough Money to buy Gas for a G & Don't have a Love for them
but it's a Nice Machine to Look At.

I have a original 1954 70 with a wide square front.

If the tractor runs as well as it looks and taking into account the good tires, if I were selling it, I would ask about $5,600.00 and take the first $5,000.00 that was handed to me. I could sell it in less than a week here in La. Don't know the market elsewhere.

Leroy- I respect your right to have you own opinion, and you have indicated enough experience to have formed said opinion.

My opinion of the 1010 differs greatly. Have a great day. :)

I have never used a 1010 but the design is something I could live with. I know that the engine is basically the same as in the 45 combines I had, just smaller diameter pistons in smaller hole deck plate so engine should be good.

Brent,
Sorry for your loss, I know this is a difficult time for your family.

I would say everyone is right on target in the $5-6k range. You know the tractors better than we do, so I'm sure your "gut" feeling is closer to being right.

I hope everything works out for you. I always wanted a G also, but I'd take an R ..... lol

Larry

I hope you get along great with your family. It seems when there's money to be had from an estate, a close sibling quickly becomes a mortal enemy.

Are you going to have an auction to sell off property? If so, the best way would be to put them on the sale & buy them out of the sale. That way no one can accuse you in the future of "taking advantage" of them in their loss. I bought a car hauler trailer off my grandfather's estate before the auction for what I thought was a fair price. My uncles were not happy and made it known. Had I to do it over again, I would have let it go onto the sale and bought it there...

Hi patsdeere I think rustred has you mixed up with a guy close to me in Manitoba that is/ was around the forum with a very similar sounding name. He buys and sells a lot of tractors. and all I can say is he's about 6 pages or so in on the sellers feedback forum here. go look if you want to know more, you can figure out what I know from living close to him.

Okay it goes like this my older Brother & sister think they got money on those tractors but what they do not know is what real people will pay for them. I have seen it at auctions where fully restored tractors go threw and sell no higher than 1000.00 dollars. Why because there are no big tractor collectors there to buy them at that time. I will make a list of these tractors and give them a fair, honest price for them. I will hope as my dad looks down he know that I am doing what I do best. If they think they can get more for them will that is more power to them. What they do not understand is that I started it up with Dad and yes all of you out here did the same for my dad. That means a lot to me thank you again. I really mean that all of you out here on this site are the best I even heard my dad state that on time. Brent
