Newholland 638 Round baler won't Bale short second cut hay are most belt balet's like this.I'm going to try the old nh 850 tomorrow. Anyone ever experience this thanks. RICK

Rick your back gate may not be close enough to your floor belt , try making a bigger wind row and force feed it for about 10 foot. This should either start a bale or clog the pickup.

Bale it with some dew on it. Early in the morning or early evening.

NO! Newer belt balers if it will go through the pickup it will get baled!

I run a 630. Hay that is too short and too dry can be a challenge at times. Put all new belts on it and got them set right, made a big difference. Even with that, rake your windrows big and try starting a bale at lower PTO RPM in the same gear you bale in. You can speed RPM up once the bale forms.

The pickup plugging up is what I'm having
trouble with.the short hay gets jammed up
under the roller behind the pickup

Make sure you don't have tines missing and ensure your pick up isn't too low on the height. I had lots of trouble with pickup plugging when starting a bale or windrow until I replaced all the missing tines and carried the pickup a little higher.
