I have a jd 4230 with syncro trans, the other day i was raising my son up in my loader, so he could clean out his gutters. The ground around his house slops away from his house. When I went to move to a different location I found that my trans was stuck in park. Luckily I was far enough away from the house that I could lower the loader and use it to take the pressure off of the trans/park and then it came out easily. It always works fine/as it should, as long as I don't put it in park when on a hill. My question is, is this right? Or is their a secret to getting it out of park when parked on a hill? Thanks in advance!!

On the 4020 you can pull the lever under spring tension , and put it into fwd or rev to let the pressure off. You can hear the spring release the park as you ease the clutch out. This is why I like the syncro over a power shift is this feature and the park holds better on the syncro too.

I don't know about the 4230, but my 20 series have a procedure outlined in the operators manuals. On them you move the lever, under spring pressure, into the first quadrant close to park(1-3-R), into whichever gear takes you uphill. Slowly let out the clutch, as tractor starts to move uphill, you can hear park lock snap out.

Interesting thing on that. The early 3010s didn't have that spring loaded linkage. When I bought mine it hadn't been updated. I had to get one out of a salvage yard and change it over myself.

Our 4430 synchro has a decal on a cab post detailing how to get it out of Park if the lever gets stuck on an incline. It's essentially this:

1 - Move the range lever to "A". The lever will be hard to move, but it WILL move!

2 - Set shift lever to "1" if facing uphill, or "R1" if downhill.

3 - Let the clutch out slowly. As the tractor just begins to move you will hear a loud snap as the parking pawl disengages.

You are now good to go!

Your 44 has a quad transmission and sounds like his an 8 speed syncro, but you are correct about getting the quad out of gear. Seen a lot of people struggle with it.

Thank you all, I have'nt tried it yet, but I think I'll be able to figuire it out now. At least I know it's suppose to do it. Thanks again.
