Parts Price Rant

I know this goes on with all brands,BUT.
Working on a 4835 70 hp.,New Holland(Fiat). Tractor has 2 spin on hydraulic filters.Nothing unusual looking, not very big,but $107. each!So,$214. plus tax for the filters, and 3,5 gallon pails of their oil@$69. each makes for an expensive fluid change. No crossover on the filters either, that I see.I like to use what the factory recommends but, jeez, over a hundred for a spin on??
Rant over.

At that price sooner or later I would expect to see a part number cross. Used to be, I always changed the filter with the oil regards of what the manual change out interval was for the filter. Now with what they want for filters - if the manual states a longer time interval for the filter they stay in place.

It is probably close to the same amount of labor/time to make them as a $5 car filter, the extra materials aren't worth that much. Somebody is making a killing.

George my brother just had an operation and will not be able to stay at Elnora. Therefore I will be selling the reserved nights for the fifth wheel. I will let you know the one maybe two days I will drive down for the morning or evening. Not planning on being there in mid day with no AC.

I think the big one on my Kubota is 12$. They accidentally sold me the small version of the same filter and it was 45$, no thanks.

NAPA could cross it,but it was more than the $107.,my son called his NAPA connection.I see more and more of this.Rebuilt a rear in a 2840 Deere not long ago,and tried to cross the carrier bearings.None of the bearing shops could do it when I gave them the well known manufacturers numbers, they said Deere owned those bearing numbers.Had to buy the overpriced bearings from Deere.

Tractor had a forward-reverse shuttle broken synchronizer failure, split to repair.Don't feel comfortable using old filters, but have to explain to owner that it's close to $500. my cost, just to change oil and filters, rediculous.

The Baldwin cross is BT8920,price is more than the $107.,cheapest I saw was $111.
Probably the one NAPA has.
The New Holland filter number is 84399618.

I know they are crazy high priced, but they are not the run of the mill ordinary hydraulic filter. I believe they are what they call glass packed or at least that is what they were saying years ago about some really expensive filters.

Ya think that is bad be glad ya don't have one of them new Ram 1500 diesels i was standing at the parts contour of the local goast shop when a guy came in for the oil filter and maybe something else and it was a 107 bucks.

(quoted from post at 18:41:02 09/01/16) Wix #51715 will cross. Discount fleet supply is $30.72.

For a NAPA gold filter try Fleetfilter dot com, that is where I have found good prices, especially if you buy a bunch at a time.

The one for my Deere skidsteer was over $100, the first one I bought from Deere, and it was an expensive looking/feeling filter, aluminum cap on it. Last ones I got thru Fleetfilter for less than half the price and same design...definitely not a cheap design for these newer hydraulic systems!

I checked on the price of 4 vibration isolaters this afternoon for a Ditch Witch cable plow. DW wanted $50 plus apiece for them. I can get the same ones, from Mcmaster Carr, for $18.50 each.

That's the filter that my Ford 4630 uses, the NAPA # is 1715. I bought one this week and it was less than $30 but I don't remember the exact price. The hydraulic filter for my backhoe is not much bigger but it's over $60.

Bill, Not sure what day will work for me. I have a full plate too. Palestine rodeo, trip to Knox, In, Shipshewana, trip to Michigan. Let you know when I get back. I want a cool day. I'll keep you posted. geo

Priced out a couple of wedge air brake parts for an Oshkosh T1500 this week. Those sales guys like to eat caviar and drive Ferraris, I guess.
