I have an IH 674 with a 239d engine that blew its crank shaft. I purchased an engine a 268d and would like to install it in my 674 frame.

The issue i have is my flyweel and clutch from my 239d bolts on but the starter grinds and will not engage properly.

If i purchase a clutch for the 268 will it now fit into the frame as the 268 flywheel is larger then the one on the 239 has anyone ever had this issue

Hi, I am not expert on the flywheels but I do know there were different flywheels for different applications.
There was also a kit to upgrade the flywheel and clutch from 11" to 12" clutch but the diameter of the flywheel must not have
changed as I don't believe the starter had to be changed. Is the diameter of the D-239 flywheel equal to diameter of D-268
flywheel?

See this discussion: http://www.redpowermagazine.com/forums/topic/19991-584-clutch-replacement/

Also go to caseih.com at: http://partstore.caseih.com/us/parts-search.html#epc::model_find
search by model number enter D-239 or D-268 and you can compare part numbers.

My I&T Service manual for 684,784,884 indicates the only difference between D-239 and D-268 is the bore/stroke.
D-239 bore 3-7/8" vs 3-15/16", stroke 5-1/16" vs 5-1/2".
There could be 3 different starters used:
Delco-Remy model 1113690, Lucas M-50 or Bosch 4 PS.
I&T also says 684(D-239),784(D-246) and 884(D-268) all use 11" clutch.

Hope this helps
