Keep it or flip it?

Shall I hang onto this one or flip it? Don't really need another green tractor around here...still have the 4020LP sitting out in the weeds...

Keep it for at least a while and mess around with it. It might be useful. An oddball among all of your A/C tractors though.

You aren't married to it and you certainly got into it right. IF you keep it and something major goes out, I've heard some of the big parts are getting tough to find for the 10 series (blocks, cranks, etc), but you have some room to afford to fix it. I'd lean toward getting it mostly working without putting a ton into it and "take some profit".

The only thing I can see wrong with it is the bucket drifts, it has a few paint chips and the drawbar is missing. I came to the conclusion that the previous owners probably inherited it and had someone restore it. May have even overhauled it, since they said they had $14k into it.....brakes work great, starts great, lights all work...said they had it serviced by the local Kubota dealer every year.

Any chance the drawbar is leaning in the corner of the barn at the previous owner's place, or in the weeds by the weights?

I probed around pretty good in the area the weights were at and think I found everything there....they didn't seem to know what I was talking about when I asked about a drawbar, so I will probably have to find one somewhere else.

A&I drawbars are reasonable. I quit buying used ones as the new A&I ones where about the same price and seem to be working fine. I actually like the straight drawbar that is offered after market. The original had the drop down drawbar. So many times it was too low or two high to work right.

As for what to do with the tractor??? That is really up to you. Run it some and see if you like how it handles. If not then sell it and use the profit to buy some thing you like.

It never hurts to have an extra tractor around that way when think you have it bad with your allis you will have some thing to compare them to.

Many older tractors weren't built to handle loaders or hoes. We broke our IH H in half with a loader. It had a narrow front end, we flipped the tractor loading logs on a truck. No one got hurt because the rear wheel landed on a big log and stopped it from crushing the driver.

(quoted from post at 04:52:54 08/30/16) your wife likes JDs ,,didnt she want the new JD?She might want this one?///lol

She just wants ones they had growing up. She has her 520, if this was a 2520 it's chances of staying would greatly increase :D

Well I have the 5525 Deere now.....that should fill that void LOL!

I would say flip it. Deere lost me as a tractor customer when they brought out the 3010 & 4010 tractors. I have driven a 3020 and 2020 and hated them. Would not own one for use. I would not mind having a 2010 but only if it was a gas and a row crop, same for a 1010. But the big ones no way.

Everyone should have a gas jd in the fleet so that they can properly appreciate what ever other kind of
tracors they have.

If that's a 3010,you already lost money by bringing it home. A 3020 might be a different story, but a 3010 is a money pit. Let somebody else throw money in it.

I grew up on a farm with a 3010 gasoline that was far from a "money pit"! What in your opinion is wrong with a 3010? Granted I don't like the tiny pto shift pin that can bend/break but many 3010/4010 pto's have been utilized for 1000's of hrs with no problems
