Youngest boy thought I told him if the level is in the marks on the dipstick, it needs oil. Took out exactly 1 quart! Runs like a top again!!! This is probably why the old fuel pump wasn't pumping right causing the engine to sputter and die. Ran it a good 2 hours and it never missed a beat!! Don't know how in the world I missed that, or didnt think about checking it, but I never did until he told me he added a whole quart. Thank you all for your help and patience with me on this!!!!!!!

WOW at least you found it. Hope no harm to the engine. I had that happen to a company truck at the local Jiflub. What happens when one guy puts in the oil and then the original guy comes back from a we we break and adds another dose of oil. Truck SURE didn't sound right when they started it up! Had to drain it just a little don't ya know.

Foaming oil could get sucked up into tube to the pump.I have seen it a few times but it is kinda rare. One of those, that can't happen things.

I was getting ready to load it up to take it to the shop, and just happen to notice one of bottles of oil I keep around for topping off when needed was in the trash can. When I asked my son about it he told me it was on the marks so he added the oil to it. I told him that I said when its on the marks, its fine, and he gave me this deer in the headlights look, and just says, sorry Dad, I misunderstood. He and his brother are good kids, and I count on them to do a lot for me now, and most of the time, they do a good job no matter what it is. The youngest just misunderstood what I was talking about.

With my pain I have to count on my kids to do more for me than Id like. Theres lots of things Id love to do myself, all the time, but I cant always do that, so I have to count on someone else to do things for me, and if they mess up, they learn a lesson.

Sure glad you found it before it went to the shop!

Bet they would have never found that, at least not until they threw a few hundred dollars worth of parts at it!

"if they mess up, they learn a lesson"

Actually, we all do and that's a great attitude towards it.
I'm glad this didn't turn into one of those expensive lessons.
I'm sure we've all had enough of those!

Funny you say that!! When I was 8 or 9, I wanted to impress my Dad and have the yard mowed when he got home from work. The old Sears mower didn't hold but a couple of gallons, but it would almost cut the whole yard. (Note I said almost) I had ran out of gas, and couldn't find any, so I went down to the tanks where we stored fuel, diesel fuel. At that age, I knew we put that in the big tractors, and the Farmall MD we had, so it must be OK for a lawnmower. Put a gallon or so in it the mower, and it fired up, so I thought OK, I'm good to go. Well, I got it done, and put the lawnmower up. The next time I went to use it, it wouldn't start. Dad had to explain to me the differences between gas and diesel engines, and why it worked one day, and not the next in the mower, and he explained it to me so I could understand. Never made that mistake again!!

Good to hear you stuck with it and solved the problem. Did any of the oil get blown out into the air filter or carb, that would have caused it to blow white smoke?

I see a ton of mowers come in the shop either over full on oil , or no oil. Push mowers with over an extra quart . People swear up n down its not over full.

The only thing I noticed was once there was some milky oil coming out of the breather when I first stated working on it, but not anything unusual. After Idrained the quart out, I pulled the tube for the fuel pump and there was a small amount of oil inside of it. But no, it never did smoke that I noticed.
