Wireless router..

O.K. We have a wireless set up for the farm computer at the farm shop, covers broad range to tractors and combines. My question is here for the house. Two laptops and one printer in one room. Distance is not a factor , looking more for speed and connective. Have a cheap 7 year old 2.4 GH Linksys now. Anybody know what I should shop for.

If you are just looking to speed up the two laptops and printer, try connecting them to your router with ethernet cables. I use a Western digital N900 router and like it. The 5.0 GHz is faster than the 2.4 GHZ, but the 5.0 GHz range seems shorter.

I have a TP-Link wireless N, 300Mbps, TL-WR940N. Found it on Amazon. Has performed flawlessly going on 3 years now. 2 computers on it, and 2 cell phones. Also gives excellent streaming to the Roku.

Chances are your wireless router is faster than your internet connection. Try plugging in direct ethernet and run a test with one of the "speed check" sites. Then rerun the test over wireless. If there's no appreciable difference, there's no need to upgrade your router.

Thanks for all the comments. Cable is out wife won,t stand for it. I have direct wired and nothing changes except the connectivity . We are experiencing a lot of connectivity problems and I am thinking this router is the problem.

I've had them go bad after a while. As far as a replacement it probably doesn't matter. All consumer grade are pretty much the same.

Have you considered putting up an over-the-air TV antenna? Programming is a little limited compared to cable, but the price is right and the HDTV resolution is better than cable.

I had a Linksys. Worked very good for many years, but then I started experiencing some glitches that I THOUGH might be the router, so I bought a new TP-Link router. Before I got the new router installed, the old Linksys began working just fine again so I left well enough alone and put the TP-Link up on a shelf. A few weeks later, bang, the old Linksys completely died. Wouldn't do anything. I installed the new TP-Link and I've never looked back. I think the old Linksys is on a shelf in the basement, but I should probably just trash it.
