John Deer 310 A backhoe question

I know it a little off topic but figured someone might know the answer. I have a 1976 JD 310 A Backhoe that has a hydraulic leak in the power steering cylinder mounted beside the front left tire. I plan to rebuild the cylinder. The problem I am having is removing the inside Pin on the cylinder so I can remove the cylinder from the tractor. I have pushed the pin down as far as I can and it is not far enough to get the cylinder off. Second problem will be getting the pin back in when the repair is done as I cannot see or find where the pin drops out. Outside pin near tire was easy and dropped right out. What am I missing. Cannot beleave this pin is so hard to remove, looks to just as hart to put back in assuming I can get out. Its not hard to push out, it hard to get to and I cannot see, or feel where the pin will drop.

I know exactly what you are talking about.
Just leave that pin in and tear the cylinder
apart right there. That pin being left in
there keeps the cylinder from trying to turn
when you are taking it apart. Thats the way
I did our 410. Check over the "head" that
screws in there, ours was cracked where it
was very hard to see, which was still
leaking after I resealed it. Once I took it
back apart, and careful looking, I saw the
crack running the same way as the seals.

I was afraid if that. I have already taken the cotter pin out and pushed the main pin half way down the hole. The problem is how do I get it back up to replace the cotter pin. I cannot get to the bottom of the main pin to push it back up. Any suggestions?Nightmare!

I had already pushed the main pin down before I noticed it would be a problem. Should have reviewed the project before jumping in with both feet. Moved too fast on this one I guess.
