neighbor wants fuel filter changed on his 4020, any suggestions about bleeding when done, first time for me on the 4020

Change the filter, open the bleed screw on top of the filter body, operate the hand pump on the fuel pump until you get fuel at the bleed screw and then close it. You should be bleed at that point.

If the fuel filters are the round type, they can be a bear to install/seal. Square (rectangular) are much easier. Both bleed similarly.

After installing new filter, open bleed screw on filter base, pump handle on transfer(lift) pump until air free fuel comes out of bleeder, close bleeder screw start engine. When moving lever on transfer pump if no resistance is felt on pump lever then turn engine over just a little bit to get cam shaft off high lobe for transfer pump.

Are you thinking about filters on 4010. Rd fuel filters on 4020 aren't bad to seal.

On my 1969, I always fill the bottom filter with fuel, and screw it on. I just put the top one on, and then start the tractor. It will sputter for a few moments while the top filter is filling with fuel, but within a minute the air is worked out and the tractor is running great. Has always worked for me.

Much better to change it over to the single glass filter...I just fill them with fuel with a syringe, set them on the mounting bracket, snap the cover on, and go....never any need to bleed them or hand prime, etc....BTDT for the last 4 decades.

(quoted from post at 20:14:36 08/15/16) My 1970 4020 has the round glass filters. They were a B****h.

Roger are you referring to this style filter in photo?

If so you have 2 other choices. You can simply start utilizing the cheaper filter I posted in other photo(AR45098) simply by removing the case(key 25) & installing AR45098 on old filter base OR change to the rectangular filter that JMS/.MN referred to. I also prefer the rectangular filter.

AR45098 Fuel Filter - FUEL FILTER ADD 9.48 USD

Yes. I couldn't locate kit for late model 4020 but older model kit is listed below.

AR55222 Kit - KIT,MASTER FUEL FILTER ADD 302.21 USD

The parts listed below are the major parts required for late model plus altering the fuel lines
AR50041 Fuel Filter - ADD 13.09 USD
AR50040 Housing - BODY, ADD 75.25 USD
R66821 Clamp - CLAMP ADD 39.93 USD
R47433 Support - SUPPORT ADD 35.72 USD

I think I'd check a salvage yard for fuel filter mounting parts.
