Hi...I recently bought a ford 4000 that has had the decals removed for painting..I was wondering if anyone could confirm wether it is actually a 4000 or not I have the serial number and production code from what I have found it was built Sept 17 1970 on dayshift according to production code..The serial number is C284971 and the production code is OJ17B,I thank you very much for any help that can be offered in solving this great mystery

There is a 3rd number behind those two numbers that will tell you the model of the tractor... go back and look for it. a model number for a 4000 would start with a "4" on earlier and a "D" on later models. The whole number will tell the exact model, sub model, transmission, pto and engine type of the tractor. For instance in the 4000 models, there are an all purpose model, a row crop model, orchard ( vineyard or narrow) model, a special utility (SU or lcg) model, industrial model and utility models.. earlier versions also included an offset. All of these were 4000 models, but sub models of that series.

if the model starts with a 3 or c, its a 3000,, if a 2 or a b, its a 2000....

My tractor is Identical to this pic of one I found including rear spin out wheels....It is a gas ford 4000 but it does need a clutch and I have read that ford used many clutches so I guess the best thing is to split the tractor and get measurements from clutch before ordering a new one..Does anyone know if these were good tractors for what they are and did they have issues that I may need to watch for..I have owned many other tractors in my days but this is my first ford tractor..

Ok I guess Im not uploading a photo correctly sorry for that....Anyways any helpful information on the post I have submitted concerning this ford 4000 would be greatly appreciated
