OK, didn't have a chance to do anything with the defrost issue last night. Got up early this morning and was going to use a hair dryer on the coil, but opened the Ref. door and box was nice and cool.

Not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, so I guess as long as it is working I'll leave it alone for now and file away all the replies here for a future date.

Thanks to all who replied,

When you defrosted it, you cleared out whatever was blocking the vents to the fridge section. Your problem will return when the freezer frosts up again.

I had one doing the exact same thing on a refrigerator at our place in Florida,, had repair man out and spent over $200 replacing computer board on it. still did it. It kept icing up behind the panel in the freezer. I did some researching on the net and talked to a repair man back here in Kentucky and he told me to check the thermistor, $25 dollar part and I did it myself problem solved. I am not sure but I think thermistor took the place of the defrost timer. I suspect you will keep having problems, mine ran for 3 or 4 days before refrigerator portion started warming up.

That's pretty much what I was thinking, but it seems odd that it didn't cool at all for 12+ hours even though I had plugged it back in. As I typed that I was wondering if the act of unplugging/plugging reset the control board in some fashion.

Son had similar problem. Failure to defrost. Finally able to identify heating coil as culprit. NO REPLACEMENTS AVAILABLE. He was able to splice new connector where it failed at end of actual heating element. So far working good.

Does it have a fan to move the cold air around?? If it spinning or did it freeze up or the coils thawed enough to let the air flow again either one or both could be what was/is going on
