Roll-a-matic front end

I was checking my "roll-a-matic" front end on my "A" tractor; right side is good and snug; left side was sloppy and moved about an "inch" up and down. I decided to pull the left side off. The "play" was not in the outside hub - it is the inside that is very loose; so I pulled the inside off and it is a gear of some sort in another gear....Im into something I dont know about? Now I may have it out of time. Do I replace the two gears or get another front end? I have never seen these before. Please advice.....thanks.

If the gears are broken, replacement should be made. If worn (to cause the play) and still have pretty good thickness to the teeth, I would clean it up and run it. Timing is pretty easy as (IIRC) it will be obviously wrong if put together a tooth off either way. Jim

Hi, well its not broken that I can tell ; just alot of play up and down....so the gears are worn on the left side. I was just hoping I could get it back in shape.
Thanks !

Is the play in the gears or the bushing that pivots? If you have an IT manual it tells how to time it, I believe. Bushings should be available yet. Ron Mn

The gears work together, so if it has play it has play in both. the play can hurt nothing because weight is always on only one side of each of the two gear teeth (one from each gear) if the bushings are good, put corn head grease (JD) and run it. Jim
