Switching over a generator to alternator on Ford

On a Ford 3000 I switched over from a generator to an alternator without built in regulator. The generator had two wires but the alternator only had one. The tractor is charging and working fine except when I turn it off, the alternator light comes on. To get it to go off I have to ground the extra wire to the bracket. Where should this little wire that used to be on the bottom of the generator go to?

Track down the old regulator and disconnect it. Insulate or remove the unused wires.

The single large wire on the alternator should go straight to the amp meter or positive battery cable. If it is wired through the regulator, remove it and wire it direct.

What I would like to know is how did you get the tack working? The tractor would have had a Lucas generator with the gearing built in the back for the tack to drive off of so how or what is driving the tack? My tractors were a 65 & 68 4000 and 68 5000 and no way to be found to get rid of that Lucas generator and still have a tack.

Well that's good question I opted to run it without it but there is alt out there that do have the gear drive but pretty pricey.
