Just changed my hanger bearing(original went 260,000 miles) on my 95 2500 pickup couple years ago.it went bad already.anyone have one replaced that lasted a reasonable amount of miles?30,000 miles is all this last one went, bought it at o-Reilly's.I wonder if oem from gm is any better?what I really want is a greaseable one

Did you carefully press the new one into place or beat it in place with a hammer?

Orileys might warranty it.

Haven't seen one with a grease fitting. From the dealer "might" be better quality, but could be the same as you get at the auto supply.

Be sure to have weight on the rear springs when you tighten it to the frame.

Some splines/yokes will only go together one way, but if yours will go in any position, it needs to be splined so the yoke cups are aligned with the one on the other end of the shaft. If it vibrates, try turning it 180*.

More than likely the bearings from wither place came from the same factory, or maybe even from the same barrel. Just putting the bearing in a box with a brand name on it does not make the bearing better. Something else probably caused the bearing failure.

like bob says these must be carefully pressed on in a press, dont beat it on with a piece of pipe and a hammer, not sure but im willing to bet o reillys is a chinese part, go to napa or carquest and get a good quality bearing assembly, then make sure the 2 halves of the driveshaft are in phase, not 90 off when you install it all back in the truck, something is wrong if it only lasted that long

Ok just to make SURE I get it right;front and middle u-joint in phase or lined up with each other and rear(at the rear end) will be opposite or does it matter?

I was surprised some years ago that there are different quality parts at the discount parts houses-so if you need a front hub bearing(or whatever),there is a $30 one, a $60 one,and a $90 one.I learned this on brake rotors,so now,I always ask for the most expensive one. They figure you want the cheap priced part, and don't usually offer the better part.I was used to buying parts from truck dealers, and always got OEM from them, because that's all they had.And naively, expected parts houses to be the same:OEM quality. So ask the parts house if they have a higher quality/priced one,or ,get an OEM part.I have found the prices to be comparable, and I want long lasting quality, even more than cheap-do it over price. One time,on a Sunday,I had to replace a front hub on my wife's car,and they only had the cheap one:it lasted 30,000mi!!Mark
