Case 580C brakes

A coworker just dropped of a Case 580C TLB that he bought at an auction. Says I can use it while his projects are waiting. It has "issues": screwdriver start, multiple heavy fluid leaks, no lights, no seat, no knobs. etc. He really is not looking for me to fix all these issues, fortunately. I will wire in a starter button; dangerous to screwdriver start anything.

Biggest issue for me is NO BRAKES!. And I wanted to work near our pond, too. Are these at all operated from hydraulic fluid level? The reservoir is, of course, nearly empty. I was heading out to get several more gallons of Hydraulic fluid, and thought I'd ask the experts here for suggestions to at least get some brake function going, for my safety most of all. If he wants to drive this thing down the road, as long as I am not out there, go for it...

Knowing the family the unit came from, it was probably stolen, and treated as such ever since.
 
580C has hydraulic brakes run from a master cylinder like your car, not off tractor hydraulics. Your problem may be in the wheel cylinders, common problem.
 
If it's like my 580D. it is independent from the hydraulic system, just like the pre power brakes on cars, but, it has two master cylinders, lines and (wheel) slave cylinders, any of which could be leaking, and I say two because left and right are independent of each other as well. Hope this helps.
 
Thanks, guys. I'll get a look at it this afternoon. One pedal is free to the floor, the other locked tight in up position. Now I have some direction to start. Thanks!
 
I would find a different tractor to use and let the coworker deal with this one. Too many issues and brakes could be expensive.
The dry disc brakes on those were a problem besides the master cylinders and slave cylinders as described, especially if not used on a regular basis.
