My dad just recently purchased a 986 and I
was out cutting hay with it and the low
trans. Oil light came on at first slow and
flickering now it's on the whole time any
idea on what it is or where to start? Thanks

If the trans oil is actually at the proper level, I'd first check the wiring and then the sensor.

I was plowing with an 856 once and the oil pressure warning light began flickering. Luckily, I was only a couple hundred yards from my shop when it happened, so I carefully idled to the shop. What I found was, the oil pressure warning sensor provides a ground to the warning light when pressure is low and insulation had worn through at one point in the wire grounding it to the engine block.

After thanking the Lord profusely, and applying a bit of electrical tape, I went back to plowing.

Have you replaced the filter and bypass? Overfill the rearend by one bucket. I think that keeps it cooler and gives you wiggle room with leaking fittings in there. If I run my 886 when its 100 and use the remotes continually I have seen it flash when idled down. Has the dump valve been adjusted? I used Tractor vet's (I think it was his or Deltared or one of those IH guys) instructions to adjust the dump valve and transmission brake. Very easy to do.
