Short answer NO!!! LOL the internal gearing is 1000 RPM only from the factory. I am not saying your could not have gears made or some thing but there is nothing that is a bolt on off the shelf way to get 540 RPM PTO on a JD 4520. That 1000 RPM PTO is one reason that a JD 4520 or 4620 did not sell well until the collectors got hunting them lately.
 
There was a gearbox made in Canada (and the name is escaping me right now) that bolted to the back of a 4520/5020 etc. that would adapt a big horse down to 540 RPM. They were NOT designed for full HP or
continuous running, as there was no oil cooler. It was mainly to use one of those tractors to run something like a grain auger etc.
 
Yes they are cheap because of the 1000 only. We were looking for another 4020 a few years ago and found a 4520 with the 4620 engine for less than the average 4020. Our chopper and stalk shredder are 1000 pto and we have lots of other tractors so it has been no problem. Sure was a big step up chopping hay with the 4520 compared to a 4020. Ours puts out 170hp on a dyno but we never work it near that hard. Tom
